Medical Assistant – Hematology/Oncology – 40 Hours – Days
Henry Ford Health is seeking a compassionate and empathetic Medical Assistant to provide dedicated support to our cancer patients in the Oncology Clinic located in Clinton Twp, around the corner from Macomb Hospital. The role is full-time, day shift, 40 hours per week, with a schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
ResponsibilitiesUnder direct supervision of the provider and nursing leadership, the Medical Assistant performs a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to assist in quality, compassionate care for patients, including:
- Greeting and escorting patients to the exam room.
- Obtaining medical histories.
- Measuring and recording vital signs.
- Preparing patients for examination/procedure.
- Assisting the provider during examination/procedure.
Education Required
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
Experience and Skills
- Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills preferred.
- Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills related to ambulatory patient care preferred.
- Problem‑solving ability preferred.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills preferred.
- EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience preferred.
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum).
- Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without completion of a clinical externship but with at least one‑year experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five years.
- Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with at least five years of experience in clinical medical assisting.
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
- Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one‑year clinical experience in a clinical medical setting within the past five years.
- Military‑trained medical personnel with at least one‑year clinical experience in a clinical medical setting within the past five years.
- Current BLS‑C certification upon hire or successful completion by the end of orientation.
- Work in a patient care setting with possible exposure to communicable diseases.
- Manual dexterity required to perform duties; walks, stands, stoops, and may require some heavy lifting of patients and/or equipment.
