Registered Dietitian for University of Michigan Comprehensive Eating Disorders Program (CEDP)
Job DescriptionPlan and implement the nutritional support necessary for the effective nutrition diagnosis and treatment of patients enrolled in the University of Michigan Comprehensive Eating Disorders Program (CEDP).
The University of Michigan Comprehensive Eating Disorders Program (CEDP) is a multidisciplinary specialty program dedicated to the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents, and young adults with eating disorders. CEDP provides a continuum of evidence-based care, including partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP), where this registered dietitian will provide services. The program serves youth and young adults ages 8-22 and treats a range of eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), atypical anorexia nervosa, and other specified feeding and eating disorders.
Work hours are 40 hours/week, weekdays, 7:30am-4:00pm.
CEDP operates within Michigan Medicine and brings together psychologists, psychiatrists, physicians, social workers, dietitians, behavioral health technicians, nurses, trainees, and administrative professionals in a collaborative, patient- and family-centered environment. The program emphasizes evidence-based treatment approaches, particularly Family-Based Treatment (FBT). Families are active partners in treatment, and staff work closely together to deliver comprehensive, coordinated care.
ResponsibilitiesEvaluate, recommend, educate, and implement comprehensive and specialized nutritional support for patients with complex treatment and diagnostic needs.
- Perform nutrition evaluation, develop nutrition care plan, and deliver appropriate nutrition interventions.
- Recognize the varied needs of age-specific populations, as well as cultural, religious, and ethnic concerns.
- Assist in the development of objectives of care, education, standards of practice and programs to assess outcomes of nutrition diagnosis and treatment plans.
- Serve as a consultant to the healthcare team concerning patient treatment plans, established practices, policies, and procedures.
- Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas.
- In the ambulatory care setting, engage patients and family members in making behavioral changes to optimize self- care management and achieve positive outcomes.
- Maintain updated menus that meet dietary needs of patients and families, including making adaptations related to special dietary needs and serving as leader in communicating with the treatment team surrounding these needs.
- Deliver evidence-based nutrition education geared toward challenging irrational thoughts and beliefs around food/nutrition, weight and shape that fuel the eating disorder behaviors, with both patients and their caregivers.
- Communicate other special nutrition related concerns clearly to all team members, and provide education around how to alleviate or resolve nutrition related concern.
- Maintain a collaborative relationship with Patient Food and Nutrition Services (PFANS) Department, including regularly communicating about food service in our clinic.
- Processing menus, completed by patient caregivers, to send to kitchen daily.
- Provide meal support within program milieu, including supporting patients and their family members in completing the nutrition needed to promote eating disorder recovery.
- Consultation with families, particularly caregivers, surrounding dietary needs of their child.
- Developing, implementing, and facilitating nutrition groups for youth with eating disorders.
