The Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) is looking for an experienced and dedicated System Administrator to support mission-critical infrastructure in a dynamic public safety environment. Reporting to the DPSS Technology Services Associate Director, you will focus on server management, administration of Genetec and CCURE 9000 security platforms, and the upkeep of Linux and Windows-based systems, including containerized environments running on Kubernetes.
You bring technical expertise, thrive in a collaborative setting, and understand the importance of uptime, security, reliability, and strict adherence to criminal justice systems regulations (e.g., CJIS) in supporting law enforcement, emergency response, and campus safety operations.
Responsibilities- System & Server Administration:
Administer and maintain physical and virtual servers (Windows & Linux), including VMware vSphere environments (ESXi, vCenter). Manage on-premises file storage (NAS/SAN), ensuring data integrity and security - Security Platforms Support:
Maintain and support Genetec Security Center and CCURE 9000 access control systems. Collaborate with vendors and partners for deployments, updates, and troubleshooting. - Active Directory & Identity Management:
Manage Active Directory services, including user/group accounts, GPOs, DNS, and DHCP. Ensure security and compliance in identity management. - Database Management:
Perform SQL Server maintenance tasks, including backups, performance tuning, and troubleshooting, to ensure data integrity and optimal application performance. - Containerization & Orchestration:
Deploy and manage applications using Kubernetes and Docker. Maintain container-based services to support our security operations. - Cybersecurity, Documentation & Compliance:
Maintain system and process documentation, ensuring all infrastructure complies with cybersecurity standards, CJIS Security Policy, and university guidelines for handling sensitive data. - For the full list of responsibilities and expectations, please see the detailed job posting document.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3 years of system administration in a complex, multi-platform environment
- Knowledge of Linux (Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL) and Microsoft Windows Server
- Experience with VMware vSphere administration (ESXi, vCenter)
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server maintenance and troubleshooting
- Proficiency in Active Directory management (user/group, GPOs)
- Experience with on-premises file storage solutions (Windows File Server, NAS/SAN)
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker in a production environment
- May require occasional evening or weekend work to perform maintenance or respond to incidents
- Participation in a 24/7 on-call support rotation may be required
- Must be able to travel between campuses and off-site locations as needed
- This position requires passing a background check appropriate for working with law enforcement and sensitive security systems, including fingerprint-based background checks required for CJIS access
All members of the Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) are considered Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) under The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. As such, you are required to report Clery reportable offenses that come to your attention. DPSS employees are required to complete Clery Compliance Training within the first 14 days of employment and annually thereafter.
