Job Summary

The MiChart Integration team at the University of Michigan Health System seeks an Application Programmer/Analyst Senior to collect system and workflow requirements, define and document use cases for the development of solutions extending the functionality of the system, services for data exchange to secondary systems, and supporting tool sets for these initiatives as well as developing operation support procedures and supporting documentation.

This position requires the ability to work in a fast paced and complex environment. Requires excellent people skills and verbal/written communication skills.

Department Overview

Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) plays a role in the success of Michigan Medicine by providing clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff with technology-related information, products, and support. HITS also provides institutional expertise related to IT strategy, security, infrastructure, and resource management.

Division Overview

The HITS Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) division designs, deploys, and supports application platforms, integration solutions, and computing devices. ETS is dedicated to advancing security, quality, and availability of services and data across Michigan Medicine. The team connects patients and business partners with relevant data for both clinical and business needs, while helping to ensure electronic medical records are accessible and secure.

The team's front‑line staff deliver consistent remote and in‑person customer service to support computers, printers, telecommunication, and mobile devices.

Responsibilities*
  • Maintain regular communication with MiChart Teams, Nursing informatics and other service customers.
  • Work with vendor representatives and the U‑M business community and end users to ensure the system meets the organization’s business needs.
  • Understand the choices involved in service specifications.
  • Perform in-depth analysis of workflows, data collection, report details, and other technical issues associated with developing system service enhancements.
  • Investigate end‑users' preference while making design decisions.
  • Analyze business operations as they relate to design decisions.
  • Prioritize and implement requested changes to the system.
  • Analyze new functionality in releases to determine how it should be used and/or impacts existing functionality.
  • Analyze requirements and determine best technical solution to satisfy them.
  • Coordinate software updates and changes.
  • Participate in the planning, review, testing and release processes.
  • Prepare details of specifications as needed.
  • Ensure that data exchange meets the business need.
  • Develop and document internal procedures.
  • Utilize and enhance set standards for naming and numbering conventions and security classifications.
  • Maintain rules for how each new version is released.
  • Establish change control processes and procedures for the system.
  • Facilitate meetings, capture key points, document decision points and track follow up tasks.
  • Participate in training and work with customers.
  • Troubleshoot problems and questions from customers.
  • Participate in on‑call rotation.
  • Participate in monthly server patching.
Required Qualifications *
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in healthcare related field.
  • 5+ years of IT related experience.
  • Familiarity with diverse operating environments, applications, and equipment. Demonstrated ability to work in a complex computing environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teams of all sizes.
  • Exceptional communication skills, professional image, confidence in dealing with complex business situations.
  • Must be knowledgeable of general industry practices for managing the deployment of functional configuration build through multiple environments supporting turnkey enterprise class systems.
