Overview
Michigan Medicines Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) Department seeks a System Architect Intermediate to fill an entry level Epic Client Systems Administrator (ECSA) role on our MiChart Application Infrastructure team within the Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) division. The team supports application infrastructure for both project initiatives and operational tasks for the MiChart implementation of Epic's Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
You will independently manage fundamental system administration tasks for the Epic EHR system, with access to senior administrators for guidance as needed. The ideal candidate is self-sufficient with significant IT experience, ideally with experience as a System Administrator or a robust technical background, including resolving issues with applications, servers, or endpoint devices.
You will analyze, apply, and document best practices and provide production support for the Epic-based EHR system to ensure a reliable, secure, and responsive system. You will leverage enterprise technologies, with Epic data and processes as a core component, and will need to learn and consider all available products, technologies, and services within the domain. This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced and complex environment and demonstrates excellent people and communication skills, critical thinking, and the ability to learn and apply technical skills.
The role requires self-direction, the ability to investigate and learn independently, and coachability by more senior staff. Occasional evening and weekend work for system maintenance and participation in the on-call rotation are required.

- Operational Support of MiChart System:
Manage install/renewal of TLS certificates; troubleshoot and support MiChart printing; troubleshoot and support 3rd party integrations; troubleshoot device integration with MiChart for end-user devices (e.g., paper scanners, barcode scanners, eSignature pads and related drivers); perform EHR setup and support of printers, workstations, paper scanners, barcode scanners, and other peripherals; coordinate packaging requests with broader operational and project initiatives; support endpoint installs for the EHR client applications;
support MiChart application with Michigan Medicine's customized Windows Core Image on desktops, laptops, and other form factors; work with Application Coordinators, technical teams, and Epic vendor to troubleshoot user issues; install and configure Epic applications on client systems; perform basic system maintenance including patching and updates; data entry and validation within the Epic system; review procedures/workflows and identify issues and recommend corrective action;
support and troubleshoot Windows Server OS and interactions with application system support; support/manage NTFS file/share permissions; participate in the on-call rotation; perform other related duties as required.

Skills:
Work with senior staff to learn more about the Epic system, tools, and troubleshooting methods in support of the EHR; review and diagnosis error logs related to High Availability, Load Balancing, and Epic services; advanced application-to-service troubleshooting and support; understanding technical underpinnings provided by the department to deliver our services, including Windows proxy services, authentication & access, network load balancers, firewall rules, etc.;
understanding and support of departmental and team strategies, processes, and procedures, including Change Control, Continuity & Resiliency, Cybersecurity, Cloud technologies, etc.
- Documentation:
Write internal support documents and knowledge base articles for other support staff and/or end users; perform other work tasks as assigned by manager.
- Required
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience; 5+ years of progressive technical experience supporting infrastructure and/or IT services in an enterprise setting; ability to gain Epic Client Systems Administrator Certifications within 12-18 months and maintain required certifications.
- Familiarity/experience with Epic EHR or other enterprise-level health care application.
- Experience utilizing and/or supporting the following:
Windows Power Shell, Python, or other scripting languages; IIS, HTML, ASP, JavaScript, XML and CSS;
Windows 10 & 11, Windows Servers, Windows Registry; knowledge of cloud and virtualization technologies and concepts; installation of external vendor application packages; understanding workstation management tools, software distribution, and networking concepts. - 3-5+ years experience with Windows or Linux…
