Position Overview
Under the direction of a higher classified employee, plans, organizes, directs, and reviews the operation and maintenance of Staebler Farm County Park and the Michigan Folk School, a year-round facility offering classes, programs, and activities; performs related work as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES- Assists with planning, organizing, assigning, directing, and reviewing the work of regular and seasonal staff and/or instructors; assists in the selection of personnel; evaluates work and recommends and disciplines as required.
- Assists in developing and implementing goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards for the organizational unit to which assigned.
- Trains staff in work procedures; ensures that County and departmental policies and procedures are followed.
- Assists in the development and administration of the budget for the general park and Michigan Folk School; assists with the collection and accounting for fees received, including but not limited to class registration, material/supply fees, and events fees.
- Develops and recommends working schedules and plans special activities and programs to maximize usage of the facility each of the four seasons.
- Administer and at times, teach classes for the Michigan Folk School. Create working syllabi for classes and coordinate supply needs and ordering.
- Participates in purchasing activities; ensures that an adequate inventory of operational, class supplies, and maintenance supplies is maintained.
- Ensures that all facility buildings, equipment, and grounds are properly maintained and safe for use by the public.
- Maintains effective working relationships with a variety of citizen groups, students and instructors of the Michigan Folk School, and the public; works closely with other departmental staff to solve a broad range of administrative and service delivery problems.
- Answers questions from the public and resolves difficult problems.
- Assist in the development of long-range plans for the facility; suggests both physical and program improvements to enhance park and school usage.
- Participate in the development and implementation of day-to-day operating policies and procedures and the interpretation and execution of broader policies.
- Assists with the review of payroll documentation for employees and instructors.
- Maintains accurate records and prepares period and special reports regarding facility operations, activities, and revenues.
- Uses standard office equipment in the course of the work; may drive a county or personal vehicle in the course of the work.

- Techniques for dealing with people from a wide variety of socio-economic backgrounds.
- Principles and practices of purchasing and contract administration in public agency setting.
- Principles and practices of budget development and administration and financial record keeping.
- Public information and media relations techniques.
- Planning, organizing, directing, reviewing, and evaluating the work of staff.
- Training others in work procedures.
- Interpreting, applying, and explaining laws, policies and regulations to staff and the public.
- Setting priorities and coordinating multiple projects and activities.
- Using sound, independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
- Performing variety of professional level analytical and operations support work without close supervision.

- Maintaining accurate records and files.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
- Ability to make independent decisions in the absence of specific policies.
Must possess a valid Michigan Driver's license. Depending on the facility assignment, the following may be required:
Current American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification.
Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a normal office setting and use standard office equipment, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and a hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone. Duties also require sufficient physical agility to inspect various parks and recreation facilities and grounds with potential for frequent exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions.
