Supervises the MWSE Business Service Team (BST) and is responsible for delivery of workforce and business development services across the five-county region of MWSE. Oversight includes ensuring policy and procedures are followed, administrative approvals and performance accountability. Works closely with local, regional, state, and federal economic development entities on business attraction and retention projects. The Business Services Manager holds a high level of technical knowledge of workforce solutions, applicable resources and community partner services to support the team as they engage with employers to meet their comprehensive workforce needs.
The Business Services Manager engages with community organizations focused on workforce and economic development, often representing Michigan Works! Southeast at various strategic level business-oriented meetings.
- Responsible for oversight and performance management of business services team.
- Partners with MWSE Leadership team to effectively deliver business services across the region
- Fosters internal partnership and team work culture with cross operational departments
- Reviews, edits and maintains relevant Business Services Team processes and procedures
- Responsible for the delivery of programs and services that have an employer focus
- Oversees the delivery of customized workforce tools to employers in a demand-driven system, such as recruitment, screening, assessment, training, employee retention and Corporate Assistance Program (CAP) services. This includes registered apprenticeship services, industry collaborative work and any other innovative workforce solutions.
- Collaborates on the design, implementation, and facilitation of business services training and curriculum for Michigan Works! Southeast and the Business Services Team(s)
- Implements regional Going PRO Talent Fund (GPTF) grant program, including developing process and procedures for ensuring optimal execution of the program, in collaboration with Program Administrator
- Manages fiscal requests pertaining to IWT, Going Pro reimbursements and employee expenses and completes administrative tasks associated with the fiscal processing of such
- Attends tours and informational overview(s) of external facilities including business partner sites, educational facilities and other community venues
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with business organizations such as the area Chambers of Commerce, Economic Development and other agencies working with the employer community.
- Develops special reports and projects as assigned
- Participate in strategic conversations with local, state and federal elected officials when requested
- Acts as local, regional, and state representative for Michigan Works! Southeast on business relationships
- Works collaboratively with data specialist to ensure employer data integrity throughout reporting systems
- Actively reviews labor market information for trends, sharing findings with appropriate MWSE team members
- Supports workforce development advocacy needs by providing requested information, employer connections and success stories
- Represents Michigan Works! Southeast at community events and meetings as assigned
- Attends conferences, workshops, and seminars as appropriate
- Attends training, learning and certifications related to the role and workforce development
- Handles stress appropriately and interact well with others
- Regular in-person on site attendance
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration, public policy, communications, or equivalent directly related field
- Three years managerial experience in a senior level role
- Superior leadership, planning, analytical and communications skills are required
- Knowledge of WIOA, TANF, Trade Act, Employment Services program rules and regulations preferred
