REGISTERED NURSE - Kellogg Eye Center Operating Room

Responsibilities- Function as a scrub and circulating nurse in a fast‑paced outpatient ophthalmic setting under the supervision of a Charge Nurse, Nurse Supervisor or Nurse Director.
- Transport patients as needed and prepare operating rooms between cases.
- Order and maintain ophthalmic subspecialty instruments as required.
- Apply critical‑thinking skills in daily practice: assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation.
- Organize and manage multiple interventions simultaneously.
- Problem‑solve collaboratively with the team.
- Navigate computer programs such as ORMIS, Sterile Processing Management, MiChart, DICOM, and the Storz recording system with proficiency in keyboarding.
- Operate ophthalmic equipment and systems safely.
- Handle stress, conflict, and conflict resolution positively.
- Stand, walk and transport patients and equipment continuously.
- Lift, position, push, twist and transfer patients as required.
- Communicate and work as a positive, team‑oriented member.
- Demonstrate compassion and caring toward patients and families.
- Be highly motivated, organized, and eager to learn.
- Work independently when appropriate.
- Provide on‑call coverage for ophthalmic patients for overnight, weekend and holiday shifts at KEC, Mott or UHOR.
- Current licensure to practice nursing in the state of Michigan.
- BSN required for external candidates.
- Minimum two (2) years of recent perioperative RN experience within the last three years.
- Experience performing scrub and circulating duties as an RN.
- Recent RN ophthalmology surgical expertise.
- Ambulatory surgery RN experience.
- Perioperative experience in head/neck surgeries.
- CNOR certification.
- Strong attendance record as evidenced by employment references.
- Hourly range: $41.78 – $64.81/hour.
- Evening shift differential: $3.00/hour.
- Night shift differential: $4.00/hour.
- Charge nurse differential: $1.00/hour.

The posting is for Nursing Framework Level C. The actual level and salary will be determined at the time of hire. Level ranges from A to
F.
- Hours per week: 40 hours.
- Shift: 10‑hour days, variable start times, Monday–Friday.
- On‑call coverage for KEC OR until 10 pm Monday through Friday.
- New employees may be required to float to designated units during low census periods.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan, the Michigan Nurses Association, and the U-M Professional Nurse Council.
