University Hospital (5D Surgical ICU)

Position:
Registered Nurse – Level C, 5D Surgical Intensive Care Unit at University Hospital, Ann Arbor.

Provide advanced nursing care to adult patients in a 20‑bed surgical ICU. Manage post‑operative and critical patients, including those with peripheral vascular disease, cancer, hepatic, pancreatic, renal, cardiac, and pulmonary conditions. Perform intensive monitoring (Swan‑Ganz catheter, ventilator support, parenteral nutrition, fluid and electrolyte management). Assist with adult liver transplants and ECMO referrals, coordinate with trauma, neuro, medicine, and cardiac ICUs. Serve as Rapid Response provider and participate in 12‑hour night shifts, orientation, and career development.

• Current Michigan RN license
• At least one year ICU or Emergency Room experience within the past five years
• ACLS certification required or completion within six months of hire

• BSN preferred
• Two or more years Adult Surgical ICU experience
• CCRN certification or advancement within University of Michigan Health Professional Development Framework
• ECMO RN experience or liver or kidney transplant RN experience preferred
• Effective delegation, teamwork, communication, problem‑solving, and family‑centered care skills

Salary range for Registered Nurses (Level

C) provided by Nursing Framework.

36 hours per week (0.9 FTE). 12‑hour night shifts.

Location:

University Hospital, 5D Surgical ICU, Ann Arbor. All new employees may float to other units during low census.

Covered by the U‑M and Michigan Nurses Association collective bargaining agreement.
