How you make a differenceThe Nurse Practitioner (NP) under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site physicians offers a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policy and state guidelines. The NP ensures necessary documentation of services is provided to the Site Medical Director or designee to monitor the provision of clinical services. Additionally, the NP communicates scheduling changes to the Medical Director and HSA and makes arrangements for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct routine and emergency medical care for inmates, including chronic care clinics, infirmary rounds, and on‑site emergency treatment.
- Adhere to established policies and procedures for medical care, including documentation in SOAP format, adherence to formulary regimens, and utilization of available in‑house resources.
- Assume responsibility and accountability for individual judgments and actions, reporting concerns or questions to the Medical Director or Health Services Administrator.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with accepted practices for incarcerated individuals.
- Provide input to facility mandatory committees as requested.
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Experience
- Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience; corrections experience preferred.
- Patience and tact to work effectively with the inmate patient population.
- Scheduling flexibility to rotate hours and shifts, including availability for emergency coverage.
Licenses/Certifications
- Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment.
- Current CPR certification.
We are looking for a NP to join our clinical team at Washtenaw County Jail. This position will work in our clinic one day a week, with a preferred Monday shift, but also open to Tuesday or Friday, 8a‑4:30p.
