A total of two (2), 0.9375 FTE, Advanced Practice Professional (either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this job opening.

Responsibilities*Position Summary The Structural Heart APP will provide expert clinical care to patients in both the Structural Heart clinic and Cardiac Procedure Unit (CPU). The APP will work collaboratively with attending physicians, nurses, procedural teams, and multidisciplinary colleagues to provide comprehensive, high-quality care across the continuum, including pre-procedure evaluation, intra-procedure support, post-procedure management, patient education, and care coordination.
The APP may also participate in educational activities for healthcare professionals, quality improvement initiatives, and research-related activities.
Responsibilities The Structural Heart APP will:
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with complex cardiovascular and structural heart conditions in outpatient clinic, inpatient consult, and procedural settings.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including history and physical examinations, diagnostic review, and development of treatment plans.
- Assist with inpatient consults related to Structural Heart patients and procedures.
- Order, interpret, and manage laboratory studies, imaging, medications, and other diagnostic or therapeutic interventions as appropriate.
- Assess patient suitability for Structural Heart and cardiovascular procedures and assist with pre-procedure optimization.
- Obtain and document informed consent for procedures as appropriate and within scope of practice.
- Coordinate and manage patient care plans in collaboration with attending physicians, procedural teams, nursing, anesthesia, PACU, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Participate in Structural Heart and Cardiac Procedure Unit care, including pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure management.
- Assist with procedural care as appropriate, including right and left heart catheterizations, coronary angiography, structural heart procedures, transcatheter valve procedures, PFO/ASD closures, mechanical circulatory support, and other advanced cardiovascular interventions under physician direction.
- Assist during Structural Heart procedures as needed.
- Assist in float of Pacemaker (temp) Place internal jugular lines and/or assist with vascular access as appropriate based on training, privileging, and institutional guidelines.
- Participate in procedural safety processes, including mini time-outs and required verification steps.
- Assist with sedation management in accordance with institutional policies, scope of practice, and procedural needs.
- Complete procedure notes, reports, post-procedure notes, and other required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Provide patient hand-off to PACU or appropriate recovery/unit teams following procedures.
- Manage acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions, including coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular disease, atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, peripheral vascular disease, and other related conditions.
- Assist in triage and management of post-procedure complications, concerns, and follow-up needs.
- Support discharge planning and provide patient/family education regarding diagnosis, treatment options, procedures, medications, recovery, restrictions, follow-up, and ongoing care needs.
- Provide timely communication with patients, families, referring providers, and internal/external care teams.
- Collaborate with nursing, advanced practice providers, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe transitions of care.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation in the medical record.
- Participate in quality improvement, process improvement, and program development activities.
- Support development and maintenance of clinical protocols, procedures, and standards of care.
- Participate in educational activities and support clinical learning for staff, trainees, and colleagues.
- Participate in research projects or studies in collaboration with faculty and staff as appropriate.
- Maintain compliance with Joint Commission standards and all institutional, regulatory, and professional requirements.
NP:
- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
