Job DescriptionThe Brighton Center for Specialty Care is the newest University of Michigan Ambulatory Care facility dedicated to providing high quality health care services for adults and children. Assist in the delivery of patient care; participating in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse, Advanced Practice Professional or Physician in a busy outpatient specialty clinical office setting.
General supervision is received from a Physician or Registered Nurse. Functional supervision may be exercised over Medical Assistants in collaboration with Clinic Lead.
- Provides direct and individualized nursing care to both adult and pediatric patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse, Advanced Practice Professional or Physician and assists physicians with clinic procedures.
- Provide nursing care to patients seen in our specialty clinic spaces including but not limited to:
Allergy, Nephrology and injection therapy - Assist RNs with daily responsibilities as directed including (but not limited to) medication refills, lab results management and instruction on plan of care.
- Administer and document allergy immunotherapy injections, oral medication and biologic injections according to established standards. Observation of patient after therapy require
- Initiate appropriate measures in emergency situations.
- Instruct patients and families according to a teaching plan established by a Registered Nurse.
- Participate in unit staff meetings for problem-solving, planning and improvement of patient care.
- Assist in research projects, quality improvement projects and management and monitoring of patient databases
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Adhere to high standards of teamwork by demonstrating adaptability and flexibility and consistently share information and resources with others.

- Basic clerical tasks that require proper telephone technique, basic typing, computer and data entry
- Graduation from an approved school for practical nursing is necessary.
- Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Michigan is necessary.
- Successful completion of a pharmacology course in an accredited program is necessary.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
