Position: Advanced Practice Professional (NP) Taubman Neurology- Cognitive

Job Summary

The Michigan Medicine Neurology Department’s Cognitive Disorders team is seeking an advanced practice professional—either Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant—to provide high‑quality, evidence‑based care for individuals with cognitive impairment. The role involves early assessment of cognitive decline, diagnosis, treatment monitoring, and coordination of care across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities
  • Perform history and physical examinations.
  • Administer evidence‑based cognitive assessments for diagnosis and treatment monitoring.
  • Order imaging scans and laboratory testing.
  • Prescribe treatments.
  • Triage referrals to determine eligibility for time‑sensitive treatments.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Coordinate treatment delivery and communicate across care teams such as pharmacy, infusion services, primary care providers, and social work.
Required Qualifications – Nurse Practitioner
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in Michigan.
  • Current specialty certification in Adult Gerontology Acute Care, Family, Acute Gerontologic Primary Care, or Adult Nurse Practitioner.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
  • Current DEA registration.
  • ACLS certification. Separate AHA‑approved BLS required unless ACLS completed via UMHS Simulation Center.
  • Three years of experience providing outpatient neurology care in an advanced practice role.
  • Experience performing cognitive screening exams.
Required Qualifications – Physician Assistant
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in Michigan.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Satisfactory completion of an accredited physician assistant program.
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License required.
  • Current DEA registration.
  • ACLS certification. Separate AHA‑approved BLS required unless ACLS completed via UMHS Simulation Center.
  • Three years of experience providing outpatient neurology care in an advanced practice role.
  • Experience performing cognitive screening exams.
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced practice experience coordinating complex medical treatments with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Clinical experience caring for older adults, particularly those with cognitive impairment.
  • Ability to coordinate clinical care across multiple patient‑care services and communicate as a patient advocate.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and manage a busy work environment.

Salary Range

$130,630 – $200,734

Employment Contingency and Resume

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process. A complete and accurate resume is required for both internal and external applicants.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan, the Michigan Nurses Association, and the U‑M Professional Nurse Council union, which governs wages, benefits, work hours, and other employment terms.
