Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Pediatric Medical Surgical Oncology unit requiring 2 years of oncology experience and an active MI RN license in-hand.

Details
  • Work in the Medical Surgical Oncology unit of a pediatric hospital setting
  • Care for pediatric patients with leukemia, blood dyscrasias, lymphoma, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and multiple myeloma
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • Day shift schedule, 4x12 hours from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • On-call responsibilities required
  • Perform cell and gene therapy administration, blood product administration, chemotherapy and conditioning treatment administration, supportive care administration, and triage
Requirements
  • Active MI RN license required in-hand at time of consideration (compact license not accepted)
  • BLS certification required
  • Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) and OCN certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience required
  • Bone Marrow Transplant experience required (administering cells not required)
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Skilled in IV therapy/infusions, port access and management, central line care, and blood draws
  • Experience with chemotherapy administration, monitoring, and symptom management
  • Experience recognizing and managing oncologic emergencies including anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, and sepsis
  • Knowledge of neutropenic precautions and isolation precautions/PPE
  • Phlebotomy skills required
  • Two professional references required from a manager or supervisor (charge RNs not accepted)
Additional Information
  • Provide direct patient care including chemotherapy, biotherapy, and stem cell/CAR-T therapy administration
  • Perform care coordination, telephone triage, and patient/family education and psychosocial support
  • No pre-hire training modules required; all modules completed onsite during orientation
  • Required certifications must be obtained prior to start date
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Traveler pairs are not accepted
  • Candidates previously employed by the health system within the last 12 months are not eligible
  • Permanent staff may return as travelers after a 1-year separation
  • No time off requests accepted during the first week of the contract
