Position: NURSING SUPERVISOR (Troy Medical Campus, Adult Infusion)

The Troy Medical Campus will be University of Michigan Health's first clinical presence in the Oakland County market. The campus will feature two outpatient facilities with over a dozen specialty programs, including Cancer services, Musculoskeletal/Sports Medicine, and Reproductive Medicine, as well as a surgery/procedure center, comprehensive imaging services, laboratory, pharmacy, and therapy services. Purpose

of Position

To assist the Senior Nursing Director in planning and management of adult infusion patient care services. To provide professional nursing leadership and administrative direction for nursing practice for Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Medical Assistants, and, as indicated, for other assistive personnel. To participate as an active member of the leadership team in the applicable clinics, providing daily assessment of nursing and medical assistant work, facilitating continuous improvement of health care services, and transition care towards the mission and goals of the University of Michigan Health.

To ensure the quality of nursing services provided to patients.

Organizational Relationships

Supervision Received:
Administratively responsible to the Senior Nursing Director, Troy Medical Campus, for nursing and clinical practice, clinical workflows, administration of applicable collective bargaining agreements, and provision of operational leadership. Works collaboratively with all members of the leadership teams of multiple departments/services.

Supervision Exercised

Responsible for professional practice and clinical competence for regular and temporary Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Medical Assistants. Works collaboratively with the clinic management teams in the management of support staff.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities Personnel Management
  • Creates job postings, recruits, interviews, and selects clinical staff. Works collaboratively with leadership teams in the hiring process.
  • Manages staffing and scheduling of clinical staff. Assists the Senior Nursing Director in determining adequate complements of staff, scope of staff roles, and appropriate workload.
  • Manages or facilitates nursing and other clinical relief staffing for multiple clinics.
  • Provides supervision, counsel, discipline, and performance evaluation of nurses and medical assistants, with feedback from the senior nursing director, faculty, peer groups, and clinic leadership teams.
  • Manages the orientation and competency evaluation of nursing and medical assistant staff, in collaboration with the education nurse coordinator.
Clinical Practice
  • Serves as a role model, mentor, and expert resource to nurses and clinical assistive staff in the provision of direct patient care.
  • Provides leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of nursing practice and interdisciplinary clinical guidelines.
  • Facilitates and supports a nursing and clinical practice environment in which empowerment, responsibility, autonomy, accountability, collaboration, and peer review are exercised.
  • Develops standard processes and protocols to minimize variation, support efficient workflows, and confirm the right work is performed by the right role.
Support of Clinical Operations
  • Participates in planning and problem‑solving of daily operations and priorities of patient services.
  • Attend all workload meetings, working with workload chairs, and discuss any findings and or action plans with the Senior Nursing Director.
