DescriptionAmerican Traveler is hiring an experienced Oncology Chemo Certified RN for a 13-week teaching hospital assignment requiring an active MI license and chemotherapy administration certification.
Details- Work in the Oncology Chemo Certified unit of a hospital setting
- Care for patients with leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and other blood dyscrasias
- Patient ratio of 1:2
- Day shift schedule (4x12 hours), 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
- Every other weekend required
- On-call responsibilities required
- Perform cell and gene therapy administration, blood product administration, chemotherapy and conditioning treatment administration, supportive care, and triage
- Active MI RN license required in-hand (compact license not accepted)
- BLS certification required
- Chemo certification (ONS/ONCC) and OCN preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Bone marrow transplant experience preferred (administering cells not required)
- Skilled in IV therapy/infusions, port access and management, central line care, and PICC line care
- Experience with chemotherapy administration, biotherapy, and cytotoxic therapy management
- Ability to recognize and manage oncologic emergencies including anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, and sepsis
- Knowledge of neutropenic precautions and isolation/PPE protocols
- 2 professional references required from a manager or supervisor (charge RNs not accepted)
- Administer chemotherapy, biotherapy, and blood products while monitoring for treatment-related complications
- Provide symptom management for side effects such as nausea/vomiting, altered mental status, and skin/mucous membrane changes
- Coordinate care and provide patient/family education and psychosocial support
- Handle cytotoxic spills and body fluids post-chemotherapy per safety protocols
- First-time travelers are accepted for this position
- Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
- No RTO permitted during the first week of the contract
- Required certifications must be obtained prior to the start date
- Traveler pairs are not accepted
- Previous Michigan Medicine (University of Michigan/Sparrow Hospital) employees cannot apply if employed within the last 12 months
- Permanent staff may return as travelers after a 1-year separation
