Advanced Practice Professional (PA) Pediatric Otolaryngology (Inpatient/Outpatient)

This is an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) job opening. Both qualified NP and PA applicants will be considered. PAs are directed to apply to job # 282539 and NPs are directed to apply to job # 282538. A total of one (1), 1.0 FTE Advanced Practice Professional (either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this job opening.

Responsibilities*

This position is a combined inpatient and outpatient APP role

Provide care to patients and families in Pediatric Otolaryngology as described below.

  • Serve as a clinical resource and consultant to patients, families, and providers for the pediatric otolaryngology service.
  • Perform detailed patient history and examinations; collect and interpret reports from diagnostic and laboratory tests, radiographic procedures, and clinical evaluations.
  • Order tests and prescribe medications.
  • Collaborate with the medical staff and team members in the delivery of care to patients and families.
  • Coordinate care and make internal/external referrals
  • Provide appropriate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatment.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to develop/implement patient education and evidence based clinical practice guidelines.
  • Assist clinical staff with telephone triage and prioritizing need for patient evaluation and outpatient follow-up.
  • Candidate will participate in department meetings to continually improve clinic processes.
  • The selected candidate will participate in continuing education/professional development activities to maintain role competency, increase professional knowledge.
  • Provide support to Pediatric Otolaryngology operating room activities by performing pre-operative and post-operative care.
  • Perform primary evaluation of emergency room consults and inpatient consults.
  • Participate in educational meetings within the program, department, and institution.
  • Perform common otolaryngology procedures such as frenotomy, flexible laryngoscopy, tracheobronchoscopy, and tracheostomy tube changes
  • Admit patients to the service as first contact. Work with minimal supervision and as part of collaborative team including physicians and residents.
  • Cross training for tracheostomy team and provide support
  • Participate in interdisciplinary subspecialty clinics (e.g. aerodigestive clinic) and coordinate care across inpatient and outpatient.
Required Qualifications *

Required Qualifications (NP):

  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
  • Current specialty certification to practice as a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, or Family Nurse Practitioner.
    • If Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner, must have 2 years of inpatient pediatric clinical experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
  • Current DEA registration required
  • AHA approved BLS certification and PALS- can be obtained post hire as part of credentialing
  • One year of clinical experience in pediatrics
