INTERNAL UNION APPLICANTS WILL BE GIVEN FIRST CONSIDERATION FOR UNION POSITIONS
Under the supervision of a higher classified employee, works collaboratively on environmental programs including home toxics collection and sorting, events, Waste Knot program, County Clean-up days, and environmental communications and outreach. Washtenaw County has a home toxics program which operates weekly year-round and a majority of Saturdays April through November. Frequent Saturday work is expected. Tuesday through Thursdays this position will report to the HHW Center in Salem Township.
Saturday this position will report primarily to 705 North Zeeb, Ann Arbor MI and at will be at various locations for the County clean up days.
- Assists home toxics program with collections, appointments, administering surveys, traffic control, and other duties associated with program success.
- Provide program support to environmental programs including School Recycling Program, Zero Waste Program, Waste Knot, composting programs, waste reduction programs and other materials management projects.
- Assists with communications and outreach aimed at increasing the quality and quantity of recycling and other landfill diversion programs.
- Collects data and maintains databases to record activities and metrics including County-wide data from municipalities, businesses, and other entities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:- Interest is required in the areas of materials management, recycling coordination, environmental education, resource ecology or related field. Proven ability to communicate and deal effectively with people both individually and in groups.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONSPossession of a valid Michigan driver's license.
DOT Hazmat Certificate to be completed while employed at the County.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSDuties require sufficient mobility to work in normal office and outdoor settings, including ability to make repetitive movement, use standard office equipment including a computer, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone.
Must be able to lift 60 lbs.

EDUCATIONHigh school diploma is preferred.
EXPERIENCEOne (1) year of customer service is preferred.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSAbility to attend work at various locations within Washtenaw County on time.
Ability to work in various weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain and snow.
