Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled associate veterinarian to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing high‑quality veterinary care and possess excellent communication skills to build lasting relationships with our clients. You will work alongside a team of experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff and will work closely with the Hospital Manager and Regional Manager.
Michigan Avenue Animal Hospital is a full‑service veterinary hospital offering a variety of comprehensive services to keep pets healthy. Services range from wellness exams and vaccinations to dental care, internal medicine, and elective/non‑elective surgical services. We are committed to providing excellent care to all patients and clients in Ypsilanti and across Washtenaw County.
As a veterinarian with Michigan Avenue Animal Hospital
, you will:
- Provide high‑quality medical care in a warm, welcoming, and professional environment.
- Stay current with advances in veterinary medicine, offering surgeries, dental care, internal medicine, emergency + critical care, and rehabilitation.
- Grow your skillset and confidence through mentorship across medical and surgical procedures.
- Utilize the latest medical technology in our state‑of‑the‑art facility.
- Comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups.
- Client communication and education.
- Performing diagnostic procedures and surgery.
- Maintaining accurate medical records.
- Pharmacy duties, including prescribing medications and following controlled substance protocols.
- Promote teamwork and staff efficiency.
- Work with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations.
- Evaluate and monitor protocols for daily hospital operations from intake to discharge.
- Monitor cases and attend daily rounds to uphold the highest standards.
- Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
- Veterinarian degree (DVM) from an accredited college or university.
- Current State Veterinary License.
- DEA registration must be obtained and maintained.
- 1+ years of experience in a veterinary practice.
- Strong diagnostic and clinical skills.
- Excellent surgical and dental skills.
- Ability to work well in a team‑oriented environment.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to providing compassionate and high‑quality veterinary care.
- Excellent communication skills, including timely and effective communication with all members of the medical and hospital staff.
- Client communication skills: elicit information, establish rapport, and provide explanations to pet owners.
- Display confidence and reassurance when dealing with stressed or ill pets.
- Capability to perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling as required.
- Capacity for moderately physically demanding work.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Demonstrate clinical knowledge in cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological, and other examinations; diagnose and prescribe appropriate treatment.
- Problem‑solving abilities to address challenges in managing a high‑quality veterinary hospital.
- Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and internal staff.
- Professionalism and openness to constructive criticism, suggestions, and feedback.
- Business acumen regarding the management and finances of the veterinary hospital practice.
- Knowledge of ethical principles guiding patient care decisions.
- Commitment to continuing education and facilitating learning for others.

Location and CompensationMichigan Avenue Animal Hospital, Ypsilanti, MI. Salary range: $120,000–$150,000. Up to $100,000 sign‑on bonus for a 3‑year commitment.
