MICHR is part of a national, collaborative consortium that is focused on bringing more health solutions to all people more quickly by advancing translational science. The field of translational science aims to build an evidence base of scientific and operational approaches that improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and impact of translational research across a range of diseases and conditions.

MICHR has the unique charge of examining the translational research ecosystem at a systems level to determine where common pitfalls exist; developing novel solutions to these challenges; demonstrating their effectiveness; and disseminating improvements widely. MICHR is a dynamic organization that serves as a hub of innovation and experimentation to advance research in the science of translation and accelerate the realization of interventions that improve human health.

MICHR seeks a Program Director to serve as the staff lead for the Education & Mentoring Group (EMG) and advance the field of translational science. The candidate will be expected to manage daily operations; define workflows, objectives and milestones; lead and support the development, implementation and evaluation of translational science initiatives; and foster a collaborative and efficient working environment. • Lead program evaluation planning and implementation, including the development of evaluation criteria and data collection methods. Review and evaluate results, making appropriate recommendations for improvement. MICHR?s Evaluation Program will provide expert guidance on these efforts.
  • Partner with programs across MICHR to provide expert advice and support in the design of educational programming.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how EMG initiatives fit into the established goals of MICHR and its funders, partnering units at U-M, and collaborators locally and nationally.
  • Lead the creation of reports as requested by MICHR leadership, including components within the annual NIH UM1 Research Performance Progress Report.
  • For the companion grants (T32s, K12, R25): coordinate grant planning and proposal development; trainee recruitment and selection processes; trainee activities; compliance and sponsor requirements; data tracking and outcomes assessment; program governance and communication; and annual Research Performance Progress Reports.
  • Create and deliver presentations highlighting program offerings, successes and translational science outputs.
Advance Translational Science
  • Stay apprised of relevant literature that informs programmatic gaps and opportunities and the development of translational science research questions.
  • Develop and implement projects that contribute to the field of translational science using skills in study design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Consistently seek opportunities to build cross-program collaborations at MICHR and beyond, bringing diverse expertise to bear on identifying and mitigating roadblocks in the translational process.
