We serve B2C and B2B customers, including non‑profits, retailers, universities, and brands that sell online through company‑branded or marketplace sites.
UGP is looking for a dynamic Sales Manager who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and is willing to work outside regular business hours to provide excellent customer support and close deals promptly. The Sales Manager reports to the Regional Sales Manager, works in‑person from our Ann Arbor, MI retail location, and operates on a fixed schedule. Potential career progression includes Regional Sales Manager and National Sales Manager roles.
Responsibilities- Promote UGP's core values; show up, work hard, be respectful and honest, strive for excellence, do what you say and promote DEI.
- Responsible for converting quotes to leads to sales. Marketing drives quotes; the Sales Manager interacts with quotes and converts them into orders.
- Communicate sales, store, and personnel information to the regional manager in a timely manner.
- Adhere to the Digital Code of Conduct.
- Provide constructive feedback to promote change.
- Participate weekly in 1‑on‑1 meetings with the Regional Sales Manager and in a weekly L10 with the RSM and other sales managers in the group.
- Assist in coverage when other UGP team members are unavailable, primarily for email and phone coverage, and potentially travel to another UGP location.
- Ensure customers receive the best experience and outcome possible.
- Engage with the local community, attend local events, Downtown Association meetings, networking groups, chamber of commerce meetings, and other community gatherings.
- Communicate with customers via phone, email, or in person to determine their needs, focusing on the customer’s preferences rather than the Sales Manager
's preferences. - Develop and relay ideas for sales and marketing tools to the Regional Sales Manager.
- Collaborate with the National Sales Manager and Head of Marketing to engage customers and drive sales at events and local opportunities.
- Open and close the store according to opening and closing checklists and store hours.
- Deposit money for custom and retail sales to the bank in a timely, efficient manner per the deposit procedure.
- Interview, hire, train, direct, and evaluate Store Associates.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming storefront; ensure custom orders and retail products are easily findable, clearly marked, and organized.
- Ensure the store is open for scheduled hours and special events.
- Schedule store associate hours and handle call‑offs, no‑shows, and shift changes.
- Coordinate retail displays to optimize sales, ensuring racks and cubbies are full, stocked, and organized.
- Handle supervisory tasks such as time‑card approvals, annual reviews, disciplinary actions, and time‑off requests for associates.
- Actively manage the store on major retail event days, such as home football weekends, graduation, and large events or fairs.
- Degree from a 4‑year college or university.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Previous sales experience.
- Highly proficient typing speed and accuracy.
- Highly advanced organizational skills.
- Proficient with Gmail and its applications, cloud computing sites, and social media.
- Prior management experience is preferred.
- Passion for the customer‑salesperson relationship, generating your own sales, and the community-oriented environment in your town.
- Eager to establish yourself in a rapidly expanding company through hard work, determination, and the development of numerous professional relationships locally and beyond.
This is a full‑time salaried position with a sales performance bonus, paid time off, and paid holidays. Full‑time team members are eligible for a 401(k) plan with a 4% employer match.
