Position: Microbiology Lab Manager I

This job involves the management and coordination of people and equipment to keep preparation/exposure work smoothly flowing through the defined lab area while meeting all quality and safety requirements, under the guidance of their management.

Responsibilities
  • Train, develop, motivate, and evaluate a competent workforce in cooperation with the management team and under the guidance of their reporting manager.
  • Overall responsibility to ensure that production targets and turnaround time goals are met.
  • Ensure that the team meets safety, quality, and cost control objectives.
  • Contribute to coordination of resources between groups.
  • Provide technical oversight and help with troubleshooting/problem resolution as appropriate.
  • Ensure that equipment and instruments are appropriately maintained, and that lab documentation is well organized and up to date.
  • Oversee communications with other shifts.
  • Contribute to decisions with regard to budgeting and spending for group.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications
  • Associates degree or equivalent technical training or experience. (High School Diploma/GED required)
  • Two to 5 years of direct laboratory experience with demonstrated technical/judgment skills. Must also have demonstrated management or supervisory skills in a laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrated management or supervisory skills in a laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of standard lab procedures and instrumentation.
  • Able to work well in a production team environment with strong organizational skills.
  • Consistent attention to detail and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Computer skills with laboratory LIMS and instrumentation software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS/BA in a directly related science field or an equivalent combination of experience and coursework
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills.
  • Detailed equipment knowledge for work in area.
  • Specific method knowledge.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to handle both desk and laboratory work environments.
