This Research Area Specialist Intermediate will work on two grant‑funded research projects at the University of Michigan School of Nursing. The role involves implementation and coordination of longitudinal cohort studies examining the impact of violence on HIV clinical care and HIV risk behaviors among sexual minority men.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in study coordination and oversee data and laboratory collection processes.
  • Conduct in‑person assessments at multiple sites, including obtaining informed consent, administering surveys, and collecting blood, urine, and pharyngeal specimens according to laboratory specifications.
  • Handle all specimens according to the research protocol, process specimens for shipping to the central laboratory within mandated timelines, and maintain a safe work environment while adhering to environmental and safety health policies and procedures.
  • Recruit and retain study participants and support recruitment via social media and other online outreach efforts.
  • Allocate incentive payments to participants and manage payment processing.
  • Process IRB submissions and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required for the research project.
Education and Experience
  • Minimum bachelor's degree in a health‑related field is required; a master's degree in a health‑related discipline (e.g., Public Health or Social Work) is preferred.
  • At least four (4) years of work experience in health‑related research.
  • Preferred minimum of one year of phlebotomy experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with, or passion for, working with the LGBT community.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to receive and convey information clearly and concisely for various mediums.
  • Demonstrated proficiency at the intermediate level with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Modes of Work

The position is hybrid and may include occasional weekend or evening hours.

Additional Information
  • Shift/Hours/Days: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; may include some occasional weekend and/or evening hours.
  • Salary:
    The target salary range is $55,000 – $57,000, determined by qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
