The Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) leads all public safety functions within the university, including police, security, and emergency management, and offers an integrated approach to safety and security, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. DPSS combines Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint operations to provide students, visitors, faculty, and staff with a safe and secure environment.
Through our partnerships across the university and local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, we use a blended service model to meet the needs of our community and exceed expectations.

Job SummaryUnder the general guidance of the DPSS Security Supervisor, you will join us in our mission by providing security and customer service and positively representing the University of Michigan to students, staff, and the general public.
Responsibilities- You enforce University parking system ordinances by conducting daily patrols of University parking lots, structures and streets across campus and addressing violations.
- You respond to court summons to support parking citations.
- You report abandoned vehicles and traffic hazards.
- You respond to parking complaints and take appropriate action.
- You report broken or malfunctioning equipment in parking lots and structures.
- You assist the community by observing and reporting problems and providing information and directions.
- You have a high school diploma or GED
- You have a valid driver's license and less than 6 points on your driving record.
- You can pass a background investigation, drug screening, physical evaluation and psychological examination

Additional InformationAll members of DPSS are considered Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) under The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. As such, you are required to report Clery reportable offenses that come to your attention. DPSS employees must complete Clery Compliance Training within the first 14 days of employment and annually thereafter.
Union AffiliationThis position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Police Officers Association of Michigan union, which contains and settles all matters concerning wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
