Software Engineer, Full Stack Developer
About the Role
Hi, I'm Abhik, Ashby's Co‑Founder and VP of Engineering. We’re looking for a versatile, persistent product engineer who builds reusable building blocks across the stack and advocates for the time and space to do so. Ashby is a growth‑stage startup with over a million daily users, and we expect engineers to ship features end‑to‑end at a high pace.
Responsibilities- Own end‑to‑end product features from research and spec to design and implementation.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to deliver high‑quality solutions.
- Design, prototype, iterate rapidly, and ship code that meets user needs.
- Build reusable, declarative components that serve multiple features (e.g., filter architecture, interview scheduling).
- Participate in code review, improve developer tooling, and maintain our CI/CD pipelines.
- Advise on product direction and champion user experience.
- Comfortable tackling any part of the tech stack and writing clean, maintainable code.
- Experience with product and technical ambiguity; thrive on the intersection of the two.
- Balance speed and quality; can ship with urgency while maintaining high standards.
- Ambitious and eager to learn; open to feedback and willing to drive improvements.
- Excellent collaborator and communicator, able to vet decisions with stakeholders and keep them informed.
- Seeks to create leverage by abstracting and automating repetitive work.
- Technical background with typed languages (Type Script, Java, Go, etc.) is a plus.
- You need heavy process or structure—Sprinting, planning meetings, or strict ticketing are required for you.
- You prefer only high‑level or “tech‑lead” roles focused on project management rather than execution.
- You want to mentor early‑career engineers; we expect senior or high‑tenure engineers to own their projects.
- You lose the ability to see the big picture when deep in implementation.
- You are not comfortable with a small, high‑autonomy team that values minimal oversight.
- Minimal process; ownership of decisions usually made by product and design.
- Natural collaboration and deliberate communication.
- Investing in tools and abstractions that give leverage.
- Focus time is sacrosanct; we keep meetings to under 2h a week
.
- Competitive salary and equity with a 10‑year exercise window.
- Unlimited PTO and encouragement to take time off.
- Minimum 12 weeks fully paid parental leave; longer in some regions.
- Generous equipment, software, and office furniture budget.
- $100 per month education budget, plus conference coverage with manager approval.
- Full‑coverage health insurance for US employees and prepaid supplemental insurance elsewhere.
$153K – $220K
