Job Description & How to Apply Below
Overview
May Mobility is transforming cities through autonomous technology to create a safer, greener, more accessible world. Based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, May develops and deploys autonomous vehicles (AVs) powered by our MPDM technology. We aim to minimize congestion, expand access, and foster livable spaces while solving real-world problems.
May Mobility is hiring Autonomous Release Engineers who are front-line problem solvers with initiative, experience, and technical skill to handle problems with limited oversight. The role sits at the intersection of release execution, CI/CD, validation, simulation, and safety gating.
Responsibilities- Release ownership and release execution end-to-end across major autonomy releases, incremental/performance releases, and hotfix/safety patches
- Manage branching strategy, versioning, and release cut processes
- Drive release readiness and go/no-go decisions
- Partner cross-functionally with Autonomy, Infra, Validation, and Fleet Ops
- Act as a system owner for release readiness and investigate/resolution of complex issues from software/hardware interactions, distributed systems behavior, and compute platforms
- Be the go-to for understanding how new features fit in, how the system might fail, and how to evolve the system for effectiveness and safety
- Enforce a stage-gated release framework with simulation corpus results, regression testing, vehicle testing (HIL/on-road), and safety gating
- Take initiative to solve challenging system-level issues caused by interactions between software and hardware
- Collaborate and lead system-wide improvements with other teams without direct ownership or management responsibility
- Assess and develop approaches to scale performance (CPU, memory, disk, network) and improve system robustness to stochastic and transient issues
- Support other autonomy engineers in designing and integrating components with the full May system
Candidates typically hold the following qualifications or comparable knowledge or experience:
- 7+ years in autonomous systems, release engineering, and Dev Ops
- Strong Python and scripting skills
- Working knowledge of C/C++
- Experience across the full product lifecycle
- Proven ability to debug complex system-level issues
- Strong communication skills across technical domains
- Experience with autonomous cars, trucks, or similar vehicles
- Master's or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field
- Experience in a startup or high-performance R&D environment focused on delivery
- Experience with AV or robotics systems
- Familiarity with simulation frameworks, HIL/vehicle testing, and safety-critical systems (ISO 26262, SOTIF)
- Standard office conditions including prolonged sitting, standing, and computer use
- Comprehensive healthcare including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability plans; domestic partners eligible
- Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts
- Retirement benefits with employer match
- Generous paid parental leave and phased return to work
- Flexible vacation policy and company holidays
- Total Wellness Program with wellbeing resources
