Jr. Back-End Software Engineer

Nutshell, an award‑winning CRM and email marketing platform, is a WebFX subsidiary dedicated to delivering high‑quality software to our clients.

We’re looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join our Ann Arbor office. In this entry‑level role, you will work closely with frontend teams using React and React Native, build GraphQL back‑ends, and maintain the cloud infrastructure that powers our product. You’ll be involved from design to deployment, using MySQL and Solr on AWS and deploying on your first day.

• A Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or a related field; a GPA above 3.5 is preferred.
• Upcoming and recent college graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Part‑time, volunteer, or internship experience in programming.
• Experience with web application backend languages such as PHP, Python, or Ruby.
• Working knowledge of server‑side MVC frameworks (e.g., Symfony, Rails).
• Strong background in SQL and relational databases.
• Understanding of API design (JSON‑RPC, REST, GraphQL).
• Experience with unit testing and continuous integration.

As a Backend Software Engineer you will:

• Design, develop, and maintain high‑performance backend systems using PHP/Symfony and other modern frameworks.
• Build and evolve GraphQL APIs that feed data to web and mobile frontends.
• Integrate data into MySQL and Solr, ensuring smooth data ingestion and query performance.
• Write comprehensive unit tests, facilitate continuous integration, and support rapid deployment pipelines.
• Participate in code reviews, pair programming sessions, and architecture discussions.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Monitor and troubleshoot production issues, ensuring uptime and reliability.
