About the Role
As a Software Engineer II on the Build Tools team at Torc Robotics, you will serve as the automation backbone for our entire engineering organization. In this highly impactful Dev Ops/Full-Stack role, you will take ground-floor ownership of the tools and infrastructure that directly drive our release velocity and system reliability. You will be responsible for running real production infrastructure, building and maintaining robust CI/CD pipelines, and writing scalable code to support the teams shipping our safety-critical autonomous vehicle (AV) software.
We are looking for an engineer with strong Python skills and deep, hands‑on experience with containerization and cloud architecture.
- Build technology solutions, analyze requirements, and seek guidance from your manager and peers on scope and objectives.
- Contribute to design discussions, proposing solutions and creating diagrams and design documents for clarity.
- Write and modify code to deliver solutions, thoroughly testing via unit and integration tests and fixing bugs to ensure quality.
- Collaborate with teammates to integrate your work into the larger codebase, and give/receive feedback through code review to improve quality and support continuous learning.
- Actively participate in team meetings, sharing progress and challenges, and seek mentorship to learn best practices.
- Participate in your team's on-call rotation, troubleshooting incidents, analyzing production logs, and guiding root-cause analysis (RCA).
- Work across team boundaries to understand how your team’s deliveries contribute to Torc’s broader product offerings.
- Expand documentation coverage, including runbooks, tutorials, API documentation, and user guidance.
- Bachelor's degree plus 4+ years of experience; or a Masters Degree plus 0-3 years of experience.
- Proven ability to tackle critical challenges with minimal supervision and strong independent judgment.
- Proficiency in AWS core services (IAM, EC2, S3) and container orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS, ECS).
- Fluency in an object-oriented language (Python preferred) combined with solid scripting/templating skills (Bash, Go).
- Hands‑on background with build tools (Bazel, CMake, Maven, Gradle) and code coverage analysis (Parasoft, Sonar Qube, CodeQL).
- Intermediate competency with CI/CD tools (Git Hub Actions, Jenkins, Git Lab, ArgoCD) and workflow tools (Temporal, AWS Step Functions, Argo Workflows).
- Solid understanding of logging and monitoring ecosystems (Datadog, Cloud Watch, New Relic).
- Experience with JFrog Artifactory or similar artifact/package registry platforms.
- Familiarity with safety-critical or embedded software practices (e.g., MISRA C static analysis, Vector CAST or similar unit-test tooling for embedded systems).
- Exposure to C/C++ in addition to Python.
