General Description:
NOVA is seeking a self-motivated, professional team player to work in its Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Intercultural Learning & Resource Center. NOVA’s AAPI Intercultural Learning & Resource Center is funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s AANAPISI Grant to improve AAPI student retention and outcomes at NOVA, under the direction and design of the Provost Office, Annandale campus. Working with NOVA’s AANAPISI grant coordinator, the AAPI Intercultural Learning and Resource Center Assistant will provide administrative assistance and event support to the AAPI Intercultural Learning & Resource Center Director and support for the Center’s numerous activities.
Specifically, this position serves as a first point of contact for the Center, greets and directs students, faculty, staff and visitors on how to use the Center, maintains financial records, and assists with our education-based programs. This position is a great entry-level opportunity for someone interested in educational and community-based work. The AAPI Intercultural Learning & Resource Center is located on NOVA’s Annandale Campus in the Founders Hall building.
and Tasks
- General office and reception duties
- Greet and help to direct visitors who come to the Center to appropriate resources
- Serve as the person of contact for Center activities and events
- Create, track, and manage feedback about Center events and activities
- Manage tracking of Center usage & visitor feedback
- Maintain communication with the Center’s community partners
- Monitor and order supplies
- Procure goods and services through eVA, including all paperwork and authorizations
- Promote the AAPI Intercultural Learning & Resource Center activities and events
- Market the Center and its many activities
- Design and assist with content of the Center’s monthly newsletters
- Provide support for the logistics and event planning needs associated with the Center, student interest groups and its peer mentor/mentee program
- Other duties as assigned
* This position is restricted and is funded with non-continuous or non-recurring funding and is subject to continuation based on fiscal year funds and the needs of the College.

Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google docs) - Knowledge of graphic design
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Experience working in student-facing or student service positions
- Experience and ability to capably use office and educational technology (MS Office, Zoom, web browsers, etc.)
- Experience in creating and maintaining data collection and records
- Experience working in higher education, non-profit, or community-based settings
- Experience using Canva
- Experience in procurement and maintaining financial records
- Education in Asian American studies
- Experience with federal grant administration
- Experience with VA Shared Services and eVAfr
