Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of students with learning differences? Oakwood School, located in Northern Virginia, is seeking a dedicated, innovative, and nurturing Classroom Teacher to join our experienced team for the  school year.

Oakwood serves bright students in grades 1-8 with learning differences such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and ADHD. Our approach centers on small class sizes, multisensory teaching, and individualized instruction. Each classroom has two teachers serving 10-13 homeroom students, allowing for meaningful differentiation and a truly collaborative work environment.

With approximately 120 students, 22 classroom teachers, and a robust team of academic coaches and leaders, we are committed to fostering a supportive environment for students and staff.

As an Oakwood classroom teacher, you will:
  • Independently teach reading, writing, and math to a small group of up to 7 students.
  • Co-teach science or social studies alongside your classroom partner to a group of approximately 13 students.
  • Build strong relationships with families through regular communication and progress updates.
  • Participate in weekly collaboration meetings with cohort teachers and academic leadership to ensure cohesive, effective instruction.
  • Prepare student progress reports on a monthly, quarterly, and semi-annual basis.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 2-3 years of teaching experience in special education or with students with learning differences (dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia) at the elementary or middle school level.
  • Experience with structured literacy approaches and ability to teach across content areas.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Virginia Teaching License, or eligibility to obtain one, with a special education endorsement.
  • Master's degree in special education or related field.
  • Orton-Gillingham training or certification.
