Assistant Commercial Construction Superintendent About The Role
Reporting to a Director of Construction and working directly with the project Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent will support the daily on‑site execution of commercial construction projects. The objective is to maintain safe and organized job sites, coordinate subcontractor activities, track project progress, and help identify and resolve field issues before they impact the project.
This is a field‑based developmental role for someone looking to build the technical knowledge and leadership skills required to independently manage commercial construction projects as a Superintendent. The Assistant Superintendent will work alongside experienced field leadership while taking increasing ownership of project responsibilities as experience and performance develop.
Job Type: Full‑time
Hours: Monday‑Friday, generally 6 AM‑3 PM, with potential variation based on project requirements, including occasional weekend or night work.
Primary Responsibilities Onsite Subcontractor Coordination- Support the Superintendent in coordinating and directing daily subcontractor activities.
- Monitor work in progress for compliance with project drawings, specifications, schedule, and quality expectations.
- Coordinate upcoming work between trades and help identify conflicts before they impact field progress.
- Communicate daily manpower, progress, and field conditions to the Superintendent and project management team.
- Assist with site logistics, deliveries, material staging, and access coordination.
- Maintain clean, organized, and professional jobsites in accordance with TPC standards.
- Build productive working relationships with subcontractor foremen and field personnel while reinforcing project expectations.
- Assist the Superintendent in maintaining the overall construction schedule and developing short‑term look‑ahead schedules.
- Track daily progress against scheduled activities and communicate potential delays or constraints.
- Coordinate with subcontractors to confirm manpower, material availability, and readiness for upcoming work.
- Help identify sequencing conflicts and other field conditions that could impact project milestones.
- Take increasing ownership of defined project areas, phases, or scopes as experience develops.
- Review drawings and specifications to understand project requirements and upcoming work.
- Perform regular field observations to verify work is being installed in accordance with the contract documents.
- Identify potential construction conflicts, quality concerns, or incomplete work and communicate them to the Superintendent.
- Assist in documenting potential RFIs and provide field information to support timely resolution.
- Track corrective work and verify completion.
- Participate in punch list development, completion, inspections, and project turnover.
- Support the Superintendent in implementing and enforcing project‑specific safety requirements.
- Monitor daily jobsite activities for compliance with company policies and applicable OSHA requirements.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and regular jobsite inspections.
- Identify unsafe conditions and immediately communicate or address them with the appropriate project personnel.
- Help maintain required safety documentation and jobsite postings.
- Reinforce a jobsite culture where safe work practices, cleanliness, and accountability are expected from every subcontractor.
Safety should remain a meaningful part of this position rather than a secondary administrative responsibility because field supervision and subcontractor management are central to controlling jobsite risk.
Project Documentation & Communication- Maintain accurate daily reports documenting manpower, work activities, deliveries, site conditions, and project progress.
