Underwood & Associates, Inc. is seeking a dependable, hardworking Field Technician to join our ecological restoration construction team. This is a hands-on outdoor labor position working on living shorelines, stream restoration, stormwater, wetland, and other environmental restoration projects throughout Maryland. This position is a good fit for someone who enjoys physical work, prefers working outdoors, and takes pride in being part of a crew that builds and restores natural environments.
Whatto Expect:
This is a physically demanding construction/labor position. Field Technicians spend their workdays outdoors performing manual labor in active construction environments. Applicants should be prepared to work outside year-round in heat, cold, rain, mud, and other changing site conditions for approximately 50 hours per week, depending on project needs, weather, and construction schedules. Overtime is paid in accordance with applicable law. Most projects are located in Central Maryland, although travel to job sites in other parts of Maryland will occasionally be required.
TypicalResponsibilities:
- Performing general manual labor on ecological restoration construction sites
- Installing native plants, trees, shrubs, plugs, and other vegetation
- Moving and placing soil, stone, logs, erosion-control materials, and other construction materials
- Using shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, hand tools, power tools, and other construction equipment
- Assisting with construction of living shorelines, stream restoration projects, stormwater facilities, wetlands, and other nature-based infrastructure
- Installing erosion and sediment control measures
- Loading, unloading, carrying, and organizing materials and equipment
- Performing site cleanup and general maintenance
- Assisting equipment operators and other members of the construction crew
- Following instructions from foremen, project managers, and other supervisors
- Following company and job-site safety requirements
- Performing other field and construction duties as needed
- Be willing and able to perform physically demanding manual labor throughout the workday
- Be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and site conditions
- Be able to work approximately 50 hours per week, including overtime
- Be dependable and report to work consistently and on time
- Be willing to travel to project sites throughout Maryland as needed
- Be able to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a construction crew
- Have a strong work ethic and willingness to learn
- Be able to work safely around construction equipment and active job sites
- Have reliable transportation to the required reporting location or job site
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States (must provide acceptable documentation to complete Form I-9)
Bilingual English/Spanish candidates are strongly preferred.
Compensation & Benefits:The starting pay rate for this position is $18.00–$20.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Employees should expect to work approximately 50 hours per week, with hours over 40 paid at the applicable overtime rate. Based on a typical 50-hour workweek, this equates to approximately $990–$1,100 per week before taxes, depending on the employee's hourly rate.
