Position Duties

Loyola University Maryland invites applicants for an adjunct position teaching in our introductory course series in the fall 2024 semester. This is a great opportunity to gain teaching experience in a mentored and highly collaborative environment.

We are looking for instructor(s) for BL154 (lecture) and/or BL155 (2 credit laboratory course). These courses, Foundations of Biology 3, are the third course in our 3-course introductory biology series for majors. Class description:
An introduction to ecology, evolution, and population biology including the relationships among organisms, responses to stress, the mechanisms of genetic change and maintenance of diversity, mechanisms of evolution and speciation, biogeography, energy flow through ecosystems and resource allocation, food webs and ecosystem services, and biogeochemical cycles.

We invite applicants to teach the lecture only, the lab only, or both. BL154 lecture meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00-9:15 AM. BL155 lab meets Tuesdays from 1:40-5:30 PM. Some off-campus field trips occur during the lab periods. For both lecture and lab, a faculty coordinator will provide support to all sections as well as the syllabus, lab activities, and power point slides.

Lab staff will complete the preparation of lab materials. Expect ~10 hours of commitment per week per course (3-4 hours for course meeting times, 1 hour for office hours, 5 hours of preparation and grading). Office hours can be scheduled at the instructor’s convenience but should be consistent from week to week.

Degree Requirements:
PhD or equivalent degree preferred.

Preferred Skills and Experience
:
Scientific expertise in ecology and/or environmental biology; strong interest in teaching undergraduates; willingness to respond to feedback and work collaboratively with other instructors.

Compensation Range:

$4,000.00-$4,500.00
