Job Summary:

In a dual language immersion model of instruction, develop and implement instructional plans and materials that meet the needs of all students. Provide an atmosphere conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students. Supervise students in a variety of school‑related settings and activities. Monitor and evaluate student performance while developing and implementing plans to improve student performance. Maintain required records and follow required procedures and practices.

Bilingual and biliterate in the target language of instruction according to the dual language immersion model for the assignment. Virtual experience may be required based on assignment.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities
  • Cultivate a positive classroom and school environment so that each student has the opportunity to develop intellectually, physically, socially, and emotionally.
  • Maintain order and discipline in the classroom and throughout the school conducive to effective learning and supervise students.
  • Plan and provide engaging learning experiences aligned to standards.
  • Demonstrate content knowledge and the ability to implement, adapt, and differentiate the AACPS curriculum.
  • Develop, select, and modify long‑range and short‑range instructional plans and materials to meet the needs and engage all students.
  • Create and maintain a collaborative and engaging learning environment for students, considering research and best practices on teaching and learning and social‑emotional wellness.
  • Prepare, administer, score, and use diagnostic, formative, and summative data to monitor and evaluate student outcomes.
  • Keep attendance and grade records as required by Board policy/administrative regulation.
  • Communicate and confer with students, families, teachers, and leaders regarding progress and areas of concern; hold parent–student–teacher conferences as necessary.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and administrators to build skills and knowledge of current trends, research, and methodology with a lens of equity.
  • Participate in professional growth and development to expand knowledge of pedagogy and related content areas of elementary education.
  • Attend and participate in staff/faculty meetings; provide input regarding planning of instructional goals, objectives, and methods. Serve on special committees.
  • Collaborate with the school‑based dual language immersion team and program stakeholders to uphold the integrity of the district’s dual language immersion program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
Minimum Qualifications

Education
:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university.

Experience
:
One (1) year general experience with virtual learning technology, remote instruction platforms, Learning Management Systems, and video conferencing tools, if assigned to Virtual Academy.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
:

  • Knowledge of current trends, research in the field of specialization, and methodology in instructional techniques.
  • Demonstrated content knowledge and the ability to differentiate the curriculum.
  • Demonstrated ability to react and adapt to change productively and positively.
  • Demonstrated speaking and writing effectiveness.
  • Ability to deal effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in technical areas of instruction.
  • Ability to engage diverse parents/guardians with varied communication styles to support their child's education experience.
  • Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to respond to the needs of diverse learners.
  • Ability to travel to/from Maryland sites as necessary at the employee’s expense for in‑person appearances throughout the school year.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g., Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Language Requirements
:
Bilingual/Biliterate in the target language of instruction at advanced‑mid proficiency (minimum level
8) in each of the four language domains (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) as measured by the STAMP 4s assessment, or completion of a university degree earned in the target language of instruction. Near‑native proficiency required.

Licenses and Certifications
:
Hold or be eligible for an educator certificate/license issued by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
