Job Description

Job Summary

In a Dual Language Immersion model of instruction, teaches foundational literacy/oracy skills, elemental natural and social sciences, personal hygiene, music, and art to children from 4 to 6 years old to promote their physical, mental and social development. Provides and supervises a wide variety of experiences by means of dramatic play, storytelling, field visits, and group discussions to stimulate students' interest and broaden understanding of their physical and social environment.

Fosters cooperative social behavior through games and group projects to assist children in forming satisfying relationships with other children and adults. Encourages students in singing, dancing, rhythmic activities, and in use of art materials to promote self-expression and appreciation of aesthetic experience. Instructs children in practices of personal cleanliness and self-care. Alternates periods of strenuous activity with periods of rest or light activity to avoid over stimulation and fatigue.

Observes children to detect signs of ill health or emotional disturbance, and evaluates progress. Discusses students' problems and progress with parents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plans, prepares and presents lesson plans, assignments, and instructional materials in an appropriate fashion that meets the needs of all students.
  • Incorporates multimodal learning throughout the instructional day, including audio-visual teaching aids, to present subject matter to students.
  • Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of children.
  • Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Maintains order and discipline in the classroom conducive to effective learning and supervises students in a variety of school-related settings.
  • Keeps attendance and grade records as required by Board Policy/Administrative Regulation.
  • Prepares, administers and corrects assessments, and records results.
  • Counsels students and confers with families when academic and adjustment problems arise; arranges and participates in teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences as necessary.
  • Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings and special committees; provides input regarding the planning of instructional goals, objectives and methods.
  • Collaborates with school-based dual language immersion team and program stakeholders to uphold the integrity of the district's dual language immersion program.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Experience:

    None.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Knowledge of school organization, goals and objectives with special emphasis on teaching techniques; knowledge of materials in field of specialization; knowledge of current trends and research in the field of specialization; ability to effectively speak and write; knowledge of and proficiency in technical areas of instruction; demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations; demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g., video/web conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint).
  • Language Requirements:
    Bilingual/Biliterate in the target language of instruction at advanced–mid proficiency (minimum level
    8) in each of four language domains (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) as measured by the STAMP 4s assessment; near native required. OR completion of a university degree that was earned in the target language of instruction.
  • Licenses and

    Certifications:

    Hold or be eligible for educator certificate/license issued by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).
