Key School is seeking a part-time Lower School Science Teacher Assistant for the academic year to work in partnership with the science teacher.
The successful candidate will have previous experience in early childhood or elementary education, understand the developmental needs of young children, and demonstrate genuine warmth and concern for young children.
Reporting to the Lower School Division Head, the Science Teacher Assistant will work collaboratively with the Lower School Science Coordinator to provide an age‑appropriate, culturally responsive program for elementary students.
Job Responsibilities- Supports the Lower School Science Teacher in planning and implementing engaging, hands‑on science lessons aligned with the curriculum and developmental needs of elementary students.
- Assist in preparing, organizing, and maintaining science materials, classroom resources, and laboratory setups to ensure safe and effective learning experiences.
- Provide small‑group and individualized support to students during investigations, projects, and classroom activities to reinforce understanding and participation.
- Foster a nurturing, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom environment that promotes curiosity, collaboration, and respect among students.
- Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, and outdoor learning experiences while maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
- Collaborate with the Lower School Science Coordinator and teaching team to support instructional goals, student engagement, and program development.
- Observe and communicate student progress and needs with the lead teacher to support differentiated instruction and student growth.

- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least one year experience in an early childhood or elementary learning environment
- Key School follows a salary scale that recognizes direct years of experience that correlate to the steps on the scale. The part‑time equivalent salary range for this position is $26,900-$35,285 and is based upon several factors that include, but are not limited to, the candidate’s work experience and education and skills.
- This part‑time position is not eligible for health insurance benefits. However, part‑time faculty may be eligible for select benefits in accordance with School policy, including participation in the School’s retirement plan and other applicable offerings.
- The ability to navigate stairs as part of daily routines; mobility around a mid‑size campus with uneven pavement.
- The ability to maneuver as necessary within a regular classroom; and the ability to rearrange furniture for activities is occasionally required.
- All candidates for teaching positions should be familiar with learning management systems such as Seesaw and Google Classroom and have the ability to create and deliver engaging multimedia content using a variety of digital tools.
- Key is a Google Workspace for Education school. Candidates should be proficient in using Google applications, have a solid understanding of cloud‑based storage and file‑sharing platforms, and efficiently manage email and scheduling using Gmail and Google Calendar.
- They should be proficient in virtual communication tools such as Zoom or Google Meet and have basic troubleshooting skills to resolve common technical issues that may arise in the classroom.
The successful candidate will work 15 hours per week – two days each week. Occasionally, there may be school functions that will require your presence to work flexible hours, including nights.
