Job Summary

Acts as a strategic collaborative member of the Academic team in support of the AACPS Strategic plan throughout the entire school year. The role encompasses all aspects of curriculum, instruction, assessment, professional learning for all stakeholders, analysis of data, and planning and execution of county wide events to ensure a positive impact on the achievement of all learners. Provides direct support and assistance to schools to ensure instruction is aligned to best practices for all students.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities
  • Communicate AACPS philosophy, goals, and expectations of curriculum, instruction, and assessment to school staff and the community.
  • Assist teachers and school administration with implementation and ongoing enhancement of a comprehensive academic program aligned to the Maryland State Department of Education Standards.
  • Facilitate collaborative instructional planning with school leadership and teams to enhance teacher capacity and improve communication between school and office.
  • Observe instructional practices and curriculum implementation, providing targeted feedback and assisting with data‑driven decisions.
  • Lead professional development initiatives, modeling best instructional practices and fostering a student‑centered learning environment.
  • Support the Coordinator in curriculum writing, assessment development, and instructional materials evaluation, including serving as a curriculum lead writer and monitoring progress of sub‑group teams.
  • Stay current with new ideas, programs, and trends in the field and model best practices.
  • Collaborate with other offices and programs to ensure quality content and teacher professional development.
  • Serve on committees, councils, and representative bodies, including professional, civic, and interagency groups partnering with AACPS and the Board of Education.
  • Facilitate and participate in evening and summer meetings, workshops, and logistics for county‑wide sponsored events.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master’s Degree in a related field of education from a regionally accredited institution required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: Four years successful classroom teaching, one year as a school‑based teacher leader (preferred), one year providing professional development to adult learners (preferred).

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of school organization, curriculum, teaching techniques, current trends, research and instructional materials.
  • Leadership qualities as a member of an instructional staff.
  • Ability to work effectively across grade levels and collaborate with other disciplines.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, assessment, curriculum, instruction, and professional development methods.
  • Technology integration skills (e.g., document cameras, projectors, Smart Boards).
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency with business technology applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
Licenses and Certifications
  • Active professional educator certificate/license from Maryland State Department of Education.
  • Driver’s License Class C required.
  • Reliable transportation required.
Driving Requirements
  • Driving required for board business within scope of employment.
  • Personal vehicle required.
Leadership Role
  • Train employees.
