Position Summary
Title: TEACHER: MAGNET PROGRAM (Teacher: Magnet Program)

Provides instruction for students by developing, selecting, and modifying instructional plans and materials and presenting them using instructional techniques that meet the needs of all students. Creates an environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students. Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings, monitors and evaluates performance, and implements plans to improve outcomes. Designs and delivers classroom instruction aligned with Magnet Program pedagogical philosophies.
Secondary Magnet Programs may include Applied Technology, International Baccalaureate Middle Years, Extended Learning, Career‑Related Program, Diploma Program, STEM (including Biomedical Allied Health), and Apex Arts.
- Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings and special committees, providing input on instructional goals, objectives, and methods and establishing clear goals related to the School Improvement Plan.
- Evaluates student progress using appropriate assessment techniques, prepares, administers, and corrects evaluations, records results, and plan lessons and instructional materials incorporating learning objectives consistent with assessment results, curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development.
- Maintains classroom order and discipline conducive to effective learning, taking all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Selects and uses appropriate instructional strategies—including lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, modeling, and multimedia aids—to present subject matter, creating a classroom environment that encourages student involvement and enables achievement of learning objectives.
- Counsels pupils when academic and adjustment problems arise, conferring with parents and students and arranging teacher–parent or teacher–student conferences as necessary; records meeting minutes in the Magnet Tracking System.
- Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, textbooks, materials, and facilities, maintaining accurate and complete records required by law, Board Policy, and Administrative Regulation.
- Improves skill and knowledge in current trends, research, and methodology in instructional techniques, technology, multicultural content, problem solving, and interdisciplinary connections through networking with other Magnet Program teachers.
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers.
- Participates in regular professional development aligned with the Magnet Program (including project and problem‑based learning) and provides teacher professional development for colleagues related to these teaching strategies.
- Plans, supports, and leads evening, weekend, and summer Magnet events such as parent/family information nights, summer programs, and other co‑curricular and career programs on a regular basis.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university (required).
- Experience: Two (2) years of teaching experience (required) or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Knowledge of school organization, goals, objectives, curriculum, teaching techniques, current trends, research, and instructional materials in the field of specialization.
- Understanding of the teaching/learning process.
- Ability to provide instruction reflecting multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
- Ability to integrate technology into curriculum.
- Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school board staff, students, parents, and community.
