About Montessori International Children’s House

Montessori International Children’s House (MICH) is an AMI accredited school serving children from 18 months through age 12 that has created an idyllic setting for young learners in its 40-year history. Situated on a verdant, wooded campus, and with a highly dedicated faculty and staff, the school community has a clear sense of purpose: to provide the best, age‑appropriate education for young learners, following the philosophy of Maria Montessori.

Position

Summary

Under the direction of the Extended Day Director, the Extended Day Assistant will work with the Extended Day team to support the on‑ground planning and implementation of the Extended Day Program. This position is a part‑time position, requiring approximately 20‑25 hours per week.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set up and supervise nap for toddler and primary children.
  • Supervise indoor and outdoor recess for ages 3-12.
  • Assist in planning and organizing exceptional, enriching extended day lessons and activities for children ages 3-12.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to implement program activities.
  • Work within the schedule to ensure smooth and effective transitions between program activities.
  • Daily room set‑up and break‑down, including but not limited to moving materials, supplies, and equipment necessary and setting up classrooms.
  • Provide classroom coverage due to absences as needed.
Other Duties as Assigned Required Skills and Experience
  • Strong commitment to, belief in, and alignment with mission and vision of school.
  • Prior work experience in a school or childcare setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of Montessori Pedagogy preferred.
  • Minimum of one-year teaching or childcare experience with preschool and elementary‑aged children.
  • Strong relationship‑building skills and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues.
  • Openness to feedback, desire to continue development as a professional, and willingness to take responsibility for programmatic outcomes and achievement.
