Job Summary

Provides instruction of students by developing, selecting, and modifying instructional plans and materials and presenting them using instructional techniques that meet the needs of all students. Creates an environment conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development, supervises students in various activities, and may require bilingual and biliterate skills depending on assignment. Virtual experience may be required based on assignment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Establish clear goals and objectives related to the curriculum; plan and prepare lessons, assignments, and instructional materials, including issues noted in the School Improvement Plan.
  • Establish learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development; facilitate language development for diverse learners.
  • Prepare, administer, and correct evaluations and assessments, and record results.
  • Select and use appropriate language development strategies, including total physical response, cooperative learning, language experience, and multimedia teaching aids.
  • Evaluate student progress using appropriate assessment techniques and communicate with pupils when academic and behavioral problems arise.
  • Observe and assess student behavior to establish discipline; take safety precautions and monitor proper use of equipment and facilities.
  • Model desired outcomes/skills to enhance student success.
  • Create a classroom environment that promotes student involvement and enables achievement of objectives.
  • Confere with parents and students regarding progress and problems; arrange and participate in teacher‑parent or teacher‑student conferences as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, Board Policy and Administrative Regulation.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff/faculty meetings; provide input regarding instructional goals, objectives and methods; serve on special committees as warranted.
  • Plan, discuss, and supervise purposeful assignments for instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
Minimum Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university.
Experience
  • One (1) year experience with virtual learning technology, remote instruction platforms, LMS, and video‑conferencing tools if assigned to the Virtual Academy.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of school organization, goals, curriculum, teaching techniques, current trends, and instructional materials.
  • Ability to reflect multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
  • Ability to infuse technology into curriculum.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, school board staff, students, parents, and community.
  • Effective communication skills (spoken and written).
  • Proficiency in teaching techniques for the assignment area.
  • Effective communication with diverse communities and development of outreach strategies to encourage parental involvement.
  • Ability to engage diverse parents/guardians with varied communication styles.
  • Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to meet diverse learner needs.
  • Travel to/from Maryland sites as needed during the school year, expenses at employee’s expense.
  • Proficiency with business technology applications (e.g., video/web conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite).
Language Requirements
  • Bilingual/Biliterate required if assigned to bilingual program; otherwise preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Hold or be eligible for an educator certificate/license issued by the Maryland State Department of Education.
