Montessori International Children's House (MICH) is an AMI accredited school serving children from 18 months through age 12 that has created an idyllic setting for young learners in its 40-year history. PositionSummary
The Substitute Teacher provides instructional and classroom support during the absence of a Lead Montessori Guide or Assistant. Substitutes are responsible for maintaining a safe, respectful, and engaging classroom environment, following the plans and routines established by the classroom teacher. They collaborate with other staff to ensure continuity of learning and contribute to the warm, supportive, and peaceful atmosphere of the school.
MajorDuties and Responsibilities Classroom Support
- Maintain classroom order, safety, and respect in accordance with Montessori principles.
- Follow lesson plans, schedules, and directions provided by the Lead Guide or administration.
- Support students during transitions, lunch, recess, and other daily routines.
- Assist students as needed with academic, social, and emotional support.
- Arrive promptly and prepared to assume classroom responsibilities.
- Communicate effectively with administrators and classroom staff regarding daily updates.
- Model courtesy, respect, and integrity in all interactions with students and staff.
- Adapt to different classroom environments across age levels as needed.
- Prior experience working with children, preferably in an educational or childcare setting.
- Familiarity with or interest in Montessori education strongly preferred. Flexibility, reliability, and the ability to adapt quickly to new environments.
- Ability to meet school/state health requirements and pass a criminal background check as required by the Office of Child Care.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a calm and positive presence.
