Transportation Engineering Technician II

The State Highway Administration's (SHA) Office of Materials Technology is currently recruiting for a Transportation Engineering Technician II in Anne Arundel County. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below by the closing date. This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy or function only.

This position is responsible for operating specialized testing vehicles with and without a trailer, and up to 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). Vehicles will be used in roadway testing on SHA network roadways in accordance with American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards. This includes but is not limited to surface friction testing and Automatic Road Analyzer (ARAN) automated data collection system vehicles.
The position is supervised by the Pavement Testing Team Leader but receives daily work guidance in the field from the ARAN or the Friction Crew Chief to assist in roadway testing data collection. The position is responsible for operating and performing routine and periodical safety and operational checks on testing vehicles and related equipment. The position is also responsible for performing testing duties in the absence of the crew chief.

Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. - Experience
:
One year of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning. - Preferred Qualification
:
Ability to operate a vehicle or equipment with and without a trailer attached up to 26,000 lb. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). - Notes
:- Applicants may substitute education in a civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for the year of the required experience.
- Applicants who possess an Associates Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or Surveying or Surveying Technology from an accredited community college, college or university are considered to have met the experience requirement.
Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.

Candidate must be able to routinely travel statewide which requires overnight stays up to 2 weeks duration at a time throughout the data collection season.
