Job Summary
Department of Physical Plant invites applications for the full‑time, exempt position of Environmental Health and Safety Manager. The role includes conducting routine surveys to evaluate detrimental environmental factors arising in or from the workplace (e.g., indoor air quality, asbestos, lead‑based paint, fire and chemical hazards, and radiation) and ensuring compliance with safety requirements.

Responsibilities- Assist in conducting fire protection systems tests (fire detection, suppression, alarm, and water supply systems).
- Conduct regular meetings of the Radiation, Physical Plant, and Risk Management Committees; implement directives, monitor emergency processes, and oversee procedures for handling emergency situations.
- Supervise, plan, and direct the activities and functions of the motor pool daily operations, including vehicular repairs, transportation, scheduling, certification, and personnel issues.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor of Science degree.
- Three to five years’ experience in environmental safety, occupational safety, or industrial hygiene.
- Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and Right‑to‑Know compliance standards.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations for electrical, chemical, biological, medical, radioactive, and other environmental substances management and waste disposal.
- Proficiency with basic computer software.
- Ability to purchase, operate, and maintain emergency response equipment.
- Effective interpersonal and human relations skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Capacity to work independently and maintain strong organizational skills.
- May require bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and frequent heavy lifting.
- May involve working in adverse weather conditions.
- May require wearing personal protective equipment.
- May involve operating various office equipment.
- Health and Safety certification.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Radiation Safety Officer certification.
- Asbestos Management License (Inspector/Management Planner).
