Position: Team Leader (Transportation Engineering Manager I)

Team Leader (Transportation Engineer Manager I)

State Highway Administration's Office of Traffic and Safety (OOTS) is recruiting for a Team Leader (Transportation Engineer Manager I) in Anne Arundel County. This specific recruitment will be used to fill this position or function only.

Responsibilities
  • Act as Team Leader for the Traffic Safety Engineering Team in the Traffic Development and Support Division.
  • Provide leadership and management of day‑to‑day operations.
  • Evaluate safety benefits and impacts of transportation projects and develop recommendations to improve safety.
  • Conduct data analysis, project development, field observations, and research documentation.
  • Maintain in‑depth knowledge of the crash database and facilitate highway safety engineering, education, and law enforcement efforts.
  • Identify crash patterns indicating systemic safety problems and recommend safety improvements aligned with federal and state safety goals.
  • Serve as safety coordinator, oversee the Highway Safety Improvement Program, and develop the annual highway safety report.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience:

    Seven (7) years of professional engineering experience.
  • Selective qualification:
    Three and a half (3.5) years of experience involving traffic engineering (cannot be substituted).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of national and state guidelines/standards related to transportation engineering and highway safety analysis.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate statewide programs and specific projects.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of database management and data analysis related to road safety.
License & Certification
  • Motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the state of Maryland.
