Chesapeake Search Partners is collaborating with a growing media, polling and digital firm who is seeking a Controller to join their accounting team in Annapolis.
This role is critical in ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across daily accounting operations, reconciliations, reporting, and financial analysis. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
- Oversee financial operations across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance
- Prepare and deliver timely financial statements, reports, and analyses for senior leadership
- Manage cash flows with daily cash, cash on hand as well as other financial reports, budgeting, and forecasting processes, to support organizational objectives
- Maintain complete and accurate financial records in accordance with applicable standards
- Ensure efficient and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Coordinate and oversee independent audits, including tax, insurance, and banking reviews
- Collaborate with internal departments to support operational and financial alignment
- Coordinate with external tax advisors to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Review financial data supporting partner tax returns and allocations
- Monitor regulatory requirements and manage correspondence with taxing authorities
- Review of all federal and state tax filings across entities
- Supervise and develop accounting staff, ensuring high standards of performance and accountability
- Promote best practices and continuous improvement within the accounting function
- Review and maintain financial components of contracts, including client, vendor, employee, and lease agreements
- Partner with legal counsel to ensure compliance with applicable laws and company policies
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA or progress toward CPA a plus
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Proficiency with Net Suite or other ERP/accounting software
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail
