Main Purpose of Job

The position functions within the Center for Resilient Communities and Landscapes Program within the Watershed and Climate Service and will assist the Climate Resilience Program and the Community Partnership Program (Program), Program Manager and staff in building and maintaining impactful relationships with local governments, community partners, networks and non‑profits. The goal of the position is to provide strategic outreach, capacity, and technical assistance to constituents across Maryland, specifically those in overburdened and underserved areas.

The Program and this position aim to increase both fiscal and programmatic resource opportunities toward implementing restoration and resilience projects. Other job responsibilities include coordinating and attending meetings and outdoor site visits, state and/or federal grant management, and planning events or workshops for specific communities.

As a Community Resilience Coordinator, part of this position involves engaging and assisting diverse and under‑represented communities to ascertain the skills and knowledge necessary to undertake environmental actions related to restoration, conservation, access, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

POSITION DUTIES

The Department of Natural Resources, Center for Resilience Communities & Landscape within the Watershed and Climate Services, is currently accepting applications for a Long‑Term Contractual Natural Resource Manager II. This position will assist the Climate Resilience Program to engage and foster partnerships with community‑based organizations, local governments, and non‑profits across the state. These connections will help deliver strategic technical and financial assistance focused on the restoration of natural resources, community resilience, and climate adaptation to flooding and heat impacts.

The position will also serve as a community liaison and coordinator for regional partnerships and networks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Seven years of experience either performing, or supervising workers performing technical natural resources or conservation work.

Notes:

  • Candidate may substitute pertinent volunteer and/or part‑time experience for the required experience. Please document the number of hours spent per week in this type of experience on the application.
  • Candidate may substitute one year of vocational education from an accredited high school or 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in a natural resources discipline for one year of the required experience.
  • Candidate may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non‑commissioned officer in the natural resources management and biological sciences classifications or natural resources management and biological sciences specialty codes in the biological science technician field of work on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience and education.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Background and experience working with diverse populations and communities. Outreach and capacity building skills; cultural competency.
  • Experience with grant and/or project management.
  • Bachelor's degree in an environmental science or related field.
