67 Friendsville Road,rMcHenry, MD 21541rMain Purpose of Job The main purpose of the Police Communications Operator is to facilitate officer safety by monitoring police radio transmissions and utilizing all communications equipment towards that end.

POSITION DUTIES Monitor and communicate with MSP and other public safety personnel via two-way multi-channel radios and maintain required documentation of same.rUtilize METERS/NCIC/NLETS to obtain, update, disseminate and accurately transmit information within the Department and to other law enforcement and criminal justice agencies.rUtilize telephones in a professional manner to provide necessary guidance and information to Departmental personnel and the general public.rFile and maintain METERS/NLETS messages, and various required logs associated with the communications center operations.rInteract

with Departmental personnel, allied agencies and the general public.rMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a State high school equivalence certificate.r

Note:

Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Operations Specialist classifications or Signal Corps, Cyberspace Support, or Communications specialty codes in the communications field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. r rDESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:

r1) One year of dispatching experience in a 911 (police/emergency) services environment utilizing a CAD (computer aided dispatch) system.r2) One year of experience in a multi-faceted work environment using data entry keyboard functions and a multi-line telephone system.r3) A combination of one year of emergency dispatch training, education and/or experience.rLICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS NOT APPLICABLE.rSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Applicants may be subject to an extensive background investigation prior to appointment. r2. Employees in this classification will be required to provide a telephone number at which they can be reached. rSELECTION PROCESS Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Successful candidates will be placed on the Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination.

The list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees. rEXAMINATION PROCESS The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application. Report all experience and education that is related to this position.
