Overview

Belay Technologies is seeking a Scrum Master to join our intel team. This role requires an experienced Agile Lead/Scrum Master to work on a large-scale software and hardware integration effort. The selected candidate will be responsible for facilitating either one large, complex agile team, or several small agile teams as part of a larger Agile Release Train (ART) delivering value to the customer using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).

The candidate will educate and coach teams in Scrum, Scrumban, or Kanban to ensure that agile processes are followed. They will help remove impediments/roadblocks and foster an environment for high-performing team dynamics, continuous flow, and relentless improvement. The selected candidate will work with team members, other Agile Scrum Masters, and support personnel to ensure that the team's commitments at the Program Increment (PI) Planning are met.

The candidate will facilitate horizontal communication across team members to identify impediments and work mitigation plans. They will sense, determine, and lead discussions when issues need to be analyzed or triaged, and drive improvements to processes. Strong attention to detail and focus on task completion are critical.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Facilitate self-organizing team(s) to ensure progress against Program Increment (PI) commitments.
  • Protect the team from scope creep during execution of the PI.
  • Remove impediments and coordinate with the Release Train Engineers on implementing solutions.
  • Help team members communicate, coordinate, and cooperate.
  • Coach, support, and enforce Scrum processes and other process rules.
  • Ensure the team has a clear understanding of the Definition of Done and how to meet it.
  • Coordinate with other teams on the Agile Release Trains (ARTs) and communicate status to management.
  • Work with Product Owner(s) to review and prioritize features.
  • Lead and facilitate SAFe ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Sprint Reviews (including demos), Sprint Retrospectives, and PI Planning.
  • Work with Product Owner(s) and System Engineers to develop User Stories to meet feature acceptance criteria.
  • Maintain and generate information radiators for the teams.
  • Collect and share team metrics, determine when new metrics are needed, and drive improvements in metrics.
  • Coach teams on Agile and Scrum principles with the goal of continuous improvement.
  • Observe team dynamics, recognize strengths and weaknesses, and coach the team to improve productivity.
  • Promote teamwork to achieve Sprint goals and lead teams toward Agile maturity.
  • Create a collaborative, learning environment and experiment with ideas to improve delivery (e.g., pair programming, cross-functional training).
Basic qualifications
  • TS/SCI Clearance with polygraph
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Full-Time Scrum Master for a software development or similar technical team
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM) or similar agile certification (PMI-ACP)
  • Hands-on experience with agile project management tools (e.g., Jira, Version One, Rally, IBM RTC)
  • At least 4 years of experience on a large technical program with varied systems and teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and time management skills
Preferred qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical field
  • Experience with large software systems including hardware integration and test
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary technical development teams
  • Experience using SAFe as the agile development methodology
  • Experience using Kanban to improve flow on support teams
  • Experience helping organizations adopt agile practices
  • Experience applying test automation, test-driven development, continuous integration, and continuous deployment to build in quality
  • Experience as a Scrum Master for a software development or similar technical team
  • CSM/SSM or PMI-ACP certification (if applicable)
  • Experience using agile project management tools (e.g., Jira, Version One, Rally, IBM RTC)
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication and time management skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, diverse environment
