As a Data Scientist on our team, you will leverage advanced analytics and machine learning to protect our cloud infrastructure from security threats. You'll develop and deploy sophisticated anomaly detection models, predictive algorithms, and real‑time analysis systems that identify and help automate the mitigation of cyber threats across Amazon's infrastructure. Your expertise in statistical analysis, machine learning, and big data processing will be crucial in building scalable security solutions.
Key Job Responsibilities- Analyze large‑scale security data using statistical methods and data mining techniques.
- Create automated systems for real‑time pattern recognition and risk assessment.
- Build data pipelines and ETL processes to handle massive security datasets.
- Translate complex analytical findings into actionable security insights.
- Run experiments to assess potential risk of security responses.
- Expand our existing LLM agent pipelines.
- Analyze post‑mortems to understand what data signals could have prevented the occurrence.
On‑Call Responsibility
This position involves on‑call responsibilities, typically for one week every two months. When paged, you will work with the team to resolve the root cause so the issue is not repeated.
Basic Qualifications- 3+ years of experience with data querying languages (e.g., SQL), scripting languages (e.g., Python), or statistical/mathematical software (e.g., R, SAS, Matlab).
- 3+ years of experience with machine learning or statistical modeling, data analysis tools, and techniques, including understanding of model parameters.
- Master's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or equivalent professional experience.
- Ph.D. in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
- Advanced knowledge of machine learning concepts and their application to reasoning and problem‑solving.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Perl.
- Previous experience in an ML or data scientist role at a large technology company.
- Experience defining and creating benchmarks for assessing GenAI model performance.
- Demonstrated ability to apply quantitative analysis to solve business problems and make data‑driven decisions.
The team is distributed, with the majority located in Maryland and Virginia. Core business hours are 10:00 AM EST – 3:00 PM EST, but flexibility is encouraged to accommodate personal needs.

BenefitsThe base salary range for this position is $ – $ USD annually. Compensation includes sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs), with final amounts determined by experience, qualifications, and location.
