IT Support, Systems Administrator
What You Will Do
At Independent Software, as a System Administrator Level 2, you will support mission‑critical telecommunications and infrastructure systems that enable national defense and intelligence operations. In this role, you will provide operational monitoring, system administration, infrastructure support, troubleshooting, and maintenance for enterprise telecommunications environments supporting 24×7 mission requirements.
You will work closely with network operations personnel, gateway watch teams, customers, and engineering staff to ensure reliable system performance, rapid incident response, and continuous operational readiness. This position is ideal for candidates who enjoy working in a fast‑paced operations environment supporting telecommunications systems, network infrastructure, and mission‑focused operational support activities.
Key Responsibilities- Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of telecommunications systems and supporting infrastructure
- Provide 24×7 monitoring, logging, ticketing, reporting, and operational support for mission and infrastructure systems
- Monitor system health and respond to alerts, outages, and operational incidents
- Coordinate with ISP personnel, Gateway Watch teams, and operational support staff to maintain situational awareness and ensure timely response to mission events
- Support network infrastructure including routers, switches, and telecommunications equipment
- Assist with router and switch updates in support of security and operational requirements
- Document incidents, maintenance activities, troubleshooting efforts, and operational procedures
- Support system administration activities across client/server and networked environments
- Escalate issues as required and communicate status updates to customers, stakeholders, and management
- Assist with system performance monitoring, capacity management, and operational sustainment activities
- Support hardware installations, equipment upgrades, and infrastructure maintenance activities
- Maintain compliance with organizational security and operational policies
Skills and Qualifications
- Experience supporting telecommunications, network, or enterprise infrastructure environments
- Experience monitoring operational systems and responding to incidents in a 24×7 support environment
- Knowledge of network fundamentals including TCP/IP, routing, switching, DNS, and DHCP
- Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, and network‑related issues
- Familiarity with ticketing systems, incident management, and operational reporting processes
- Ability to analyze system issues and perform effective problem resolution
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within operational support teams
- Experience documenting procedures, troubleshooting activities, and operational workflows
- Strong organizational and customer service skills
- Candidates must be willing to work one of the following shifts:
- Wednesday – Sunday | 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM
- Sunday – Thursday | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Sunday – Thursday | 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Tuesday – Saturday | 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM
- Sunday – Thursday | 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
- Monday – Friday | 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM
- Saturday – Wednesday | 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM
- Wednesday – Sunday | 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and 10 years of relevant experience supporting systems administration, telecommunications, network operations, or infrastructure support activities
- High School Diploma or GED and 15 years of relevant experience supporting systems administration, telecommunications, network operations, or infrastructure support activities
- Must meet DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification
- Must possess an active TS SCI with appropriate polygraph to be considered for this role
